There’s no question right now about who the hottest hitter on the Boston Red Sox is. Manny Ramirez. In case you’ve been under a rock for the past week, you’ve missed a heck of a home run barrage by Manny this week in his quest to reach 500.

First, a two-run bomb off of Indians closer Joe Borowski on Monday night. Next up are these two home runs off of Mike Mussina on Thursday night. Then last night, a 2-run bomb to win the game for the Red Sox. If the light pole didn’t get in the way, the ball may have gone to the Mass Pike in the air.

Josh Beckett asked to be traded if the ice cream machine isn’t returned to the players lounge.

Manny and Big Papi are becoming the force that they once were now that Big Papi is hitting too. Last night’s game was no exception. After Dustin Pedroia double, Big Papi beat the shift with a shot under the glove of Ian Kinsler to bring home Pedroia. Just a two pitches later, Manny hit the 2-run bomb. After the game, Manny had this to say about Big Papi and his future with the Red Sox.

“(Ortiz) is going to come through, and like I said, if he doesn’t hit I’m going to hit for him,” Ramirez told WRKO-AM. “I feel good. I’m just trying to stay here for four years, trying to get two options (on his contract picked up) and get four years after that and I’ve got to go out and play my (butt) off out there.”

Mike Lowell is hoping to return soon to the Red Sox lineup.

German Duran played his first professional game in the outfield last night. He also got his first major league hit in the game.
