Now available on DVD through this exclusive Sox & Dawgs blog offer it’s “Mascots Gone Wild”!
First it was the Stanford Tree in a drunken dance at a men’s basketball game that led to the custom’s wearer being fired. Now it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers openly gay mascot Steely McBeam who went on a bender and was charged with drunken driving.
C’mon Steely even Pat Patriot knows “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose”.
Technically it wasn’t Steely, who blew the .166 more than double the legal limit of .08, but rather the man who wears the costume that terrorizes ill children and hits on gay construction workers in downtown Pittsburgh.
The “actor” who plays Steely, Kenneth Hahey, 24, of Mt. Washington, PA was charged with drunken driving after he was stopped in the South Side of Pittsburgh in January, according to municipal court records.
Hahey ran a red light while turning at about 1:45 a.m. on January 6th. When an officer stopped Hahey, the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol and Hahey’s speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. He failed a roadside DUI test after he was given three chances to pass the walk-and-turn test after he first complained that he was nervous and then said he wasn’t on level ground.
The Steelers have since fired Hahey, but Steely lives on for another day making children run away screaming and Steelers fans cry in their terrible towels while he dances to the “Y-M-C-A”.
