As Tom Werner had said yesterday, there was going to be a lot of surprises at the ceremonies and game at the Boston Red Sox 2008 home opener. We saw the four teams in Boston with representatives from their championship teams and Bill Buckner throwing out the first pitch.
Then in the bottom of the 7th inning, we saw Boston’s own Steven Tyler of Aerosmith perform “God Bless America”. To me it was an absolutely amazing performance.
In the bottom of the 8th inning when we normally hear Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”, it was actually performed with Neil Diamond on the jumbotron. The Red Sox had taped a special version of “Sweet Caroline” just for this very moment. Red Sox chairman Tom Werner was doing his best to dance in the background but I’d call it more arm flailing than anything.
Here is the video goodness of both songs. Enjoy.
In what I thought would have been the topper, the Red Sox should have gotten The Standells to perform “Dirty Water” live.
Overall just a great day to be a Red Sox fan. Banners, rings, Bill Buckner, Tyler, Diamond and best of all, a Red Sox win in the home opener.

thanks, loving Steven Tyler and feel good he mentioned our troops as well, maybe I should become a baseball fan! g Neil Diamond sounds good as well.
