My apologies for the lateness of the post today. I had a rock put a nice crack in my windshield the other day and today was the day I was given for them to come fix it. It was an experience like when you order cable and they tell you they will be there between the hours of 8 AM and 12 PM. Of course they didn’t show up until 1 PM but after talking with them, I understood why. So in the end it wasn’t a big deal at all. The problem was my body woke me up at 7 AM so when they were done, I passed back out. And now that you’re bored out of your minds, on to some quick Red Sox news.
The Boston Red Sox took on the Baltimore Orioles today and beat them by the score of 7-4 in 7 innings. The game was called due to some rain in the Ft. Myers area this afternoon.
Daisuke Matuszaka got the start for the Sox today and he went four innings. He allowed 4 hits, 2 runs and had 2 strikeouts. Nothing too exciting but nonetheless he feels like he’s progressing. Jonathan Papelbon threw an inning striking out two while Mike Timlin went an inning giving up 2 hits and 1 run. The Red Sox got a scare in the 7th inning when Manny Delcarmen tweaked his knee when he slipped on the wet field throwing a ball to first. The game was called right after that when the tarp went on the field.
Manny Ramirez and J.D. Drew powered the offense with home runs. Manny hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning and Drew added a solo shot in the 2nd inning. Alex Cora also had a good day at the plate as he was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Here’s something I forgot to put in the morning roundup. Rob Bradford’s speaker series continued as he had Brian O’Halloran, Director of Baseball Operations for the Red Sox, answered some reader questions.
Curt Schilling checked in this morning with his thoughts on Doug Mirabelli.
Kevin Cash also shared some thoughts about the role Mirabelli has played for him on the Sox.
“I was very happy, but at the same time, it was a rough day for everybody, because of the relationships Doug has with a lot of these players on this team,” Cash said this morning. “He’s very well-liked, very well-respected. That goes from my standpoint, too. At the same time, it is a business and it’s a career opportunity for me.”
“I talked to Doug before we went on that road trip [to Tampa], and then after the game I talked to him,” Cash said. “He was very helpful to me. At the time, I’m coming here, Boston is leading the AL East, so they wanted contributions from everybody involved. The goal was to get to the World Series, and he was very helpful.”
And in closing this afternoon evening, here is your Josh Beckett injury update.
“He’s doing better,” manager Terry Francona said. “He’s on the treadmill, doing some walking. He’s getting there. We told him, when you think you’re there, we’ll probably back you up a couple of days. He’s doing a good job of doing exactly what the trainers are telling him to do. That’s not an easy thing for him to do, because he’s such a 100 mph guy.”
Manny Ramirez wasted no time in taking Mirabelli’s locker.
It was good to read that Delcarmen will be ok after slipping. Turns out he has tendinitis in his knee and he just tweaked it a little bit. He’s definitely going to be counted on heavily this season. With all the nagging injuries the Red Sox have, they don’t really need another player down this early in the game.

i was surprised by curt schillings blog on mirabelli.
I was a little surprised but being a member of a baseball team is like having a second family and now they’ve lost a member of that family.
