Incoming UConn Huskies women’s basketball recruit Elena Delle Donne has picked up her second national high school girls basketball honor as the Atlanta Tip-off Club has named her as the recipient of the 2008 Naismith National High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Last month, she named the State Farm/WBCA High School Player of the Year.
“Talent aside, these are the premier student-athletes in all of high school basketball, and very deserving of the Naismith Trophy,†Gary Stokan, Atlanta Tipoff Club president. “The way they conduct themselves both on and off the court is something to behold.â€
Delle Donne averaged 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists during a 15-6 campaign for Ursuline Academy. She did miss 10 games with mononucleosis.
She will join another Naismith winner on the Huskies in Maya Moore, who won the award in 2006 and 2007. Other Huskies who have won the award are Diana Taurasi and Ann Strother.
Here is a video of Delle Donne that aired on ESPN back in October of 2007.
It should be a fun next three years of UConn women’s basketball with Moore and Delle Donne.
