The #16 UConn Huskies started out strong and fought off the West Virginia Mountaineers down the stretch as they beat them 79-71 at the XL Center on Saturday afternoon.
A.J. Price paced the Huskies (23-6, 11-4 Big East) with 24 points. Jeff Adrien had yet another double-double as he had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Stanley Robinson and Craig Austrie both chipped in with 12 points while Gavin Edwards was strong off the bench for the Huskies with 7 points. Doug Wiggins contributed 6 assists in the win.
West Virginia (20-9, 9-7) was led by Joe Alexander who had 32 points and 10 rebounds. The only other Mountaineers player in double figures was Alex Ruoff with 12 points. John Flowers and Da’Sean Butler both had 9 points.
The Huskies will head out on the road for the final time this season in Big East play on Thursday night when they visit the Providence Friars. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM and the game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
