This should come as no surprise to anyone who watches the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team play. The Big East Conference named Maya Moore as the Big East Freshman of the Week for a record 9th time for the week ending 2/24.
In UConn’s two wins over Marquette and St. John’s, Moore averaged a double-double with 24.5 points and 10 rebounds.
Against Marquette, which UConn won by 32 points, Moore tied her career-high with 31 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. In the 57 point trouncing of St. John’s, Moore had 18 points and 11 rebounds for her 7th double-double of the season. She has scored in double figures in each of her first 27 games at UConn, a UConn freshman record. She needs just four more double figure games to tie Diana Taurasi for the overall record for consecutive games with double digits scored.
What is it going to take for Moore to win the Big East Player of the Week honors? And will the Big East coaches even consider her for the Big East Player of the Year honors?
