Time To Harass Phil Hughes

February 22nd, 2008 by Ian · 41 Comments ·

Sox fan pissing on the YankeesWe all know how much Red Sox fans hate the Yankees and by the Yankees I mean the whole enchilada. The players, the manager, the management, the fans, you name it. And now it seems as though we can have a little fun with a Yankees player Red Sox Nation.

If you hadn’t heard, Phil Hughes from the Yankees has his own blog now where he had been doing something similar to what Curt Schilling does in answering questions from the comments. Well, Hughes has taken it up a notch now to where he has an email address setup for the blog where fans can ask him questions or give him feedback on the blog.

So what better way to harass Hughes than through an email. And by harass, I mean writing something that won’t have you put in jail. So Red Sox fans start sending emails to Hughes asking him stupid stuff and see if he answers them.

hat tipto Andrew over The ‘Ropolitans for the tip.

    Dear Phil,

YOU IS OUTTTTA YA TREEEEEEEE!!!! SHHHHITBAWX!!

    Love,

  • Ian

And be sure to tell him Ian sent you. That ought to confuse him.

  • Mike

Too bad it’s not Joba Chamberlain. Phil Hughes grew up as a Red Sox fan so I’d feel bad harassing him.

Also it’s easier to harass Joba.. he’s fat.

  • Ian

Even if he grew up as a Red Sox fan, he’s still a member of the “Evil Empire”.

  • Mike

    Fair enough, harass away!

  • Mel

Red Sox are wack and so is UConn. They can both go to hell on an Acela.

  • Steve

according to AC/DC its a Highway to Hell, not a railway.

  • Ian

Just another bitter Yanks fan I think. Must be a Knicks fan too. :D

  • RedSox Suck

Wow,…see that is the difference from us Yankee Fans, you guys have no class and respect for the game

  • steve

Phil will be responding 18-1* to all you Sox fans. Classless Boston fans to encourage harrassing a guy who is actually doing something you only wish your favorite player does. You are seriously the worst fans I have ever seen. 19 and oops! Also when you have more the 26 world championships…we’ll admit you are the greatest team in the history of baseball. Until then…try cheating!!

  • Ian

We have no class and respect for the game. Have you ever been to Yankee Stadium? I guess you think all the Yankees fans are angels. Even if I hadn’t posted this some Red Sox fan would have emailed him anyways.

Like I’ve said with Curt Schilling’s blog, I think it’s a great thing that Hughes is doing especially taking questions from the fans. I think anytime an athlete does that it brings a different perspective to the game. I’ll admit I read his blog. So take this post as you must.

  • Ian

First off it’s harass not harrass. At the least, you could have looked at the title of the post to learn how to spell.

Secondly, a player from my favorite team does have a public blog, maybe you’ve heard of it. 38 Pitches.

And you can refer to what I said in the above comment what I think about athlete blogs.

  • Ian

And I am sure y’all think this headline is a nice thing to say as well.

Red Sox fill their empty ‘fat pitcher’ spot - Rivera Ave. Blues

  • Steve

Hey you dont even have to go to Yankee Stadium to run into douchebag Yankee fans. JUst listen to WEEI, or go to any Sox Yankee game at Fenway even. I swear if you’re an asshole from NY they bus you in special. also read Schilling blog, Yankee asshole’s show up all the time. Hughes blog is nothing but fluff, running contests what does he think he is a DJ at K-Rock?

and wtf does 18-1 or 19-0 or any of that have to do with the Red Sox? If you were such an intelligent NY sports fan you’d realize there are many thousands of Giants fans in the Boston area and all over New England. A family rooting interest from long before the Patriots came about. The Pats didnt make strides into the Giants fan base in New England until they joined the NFL during the 1970 merger. Many Red Sox fans are infact Giants fans, so you aren’t hurting them at all.

I guess 7 years to you guys must seen like a lifetime and I hope it kills you inside everytime you realize we have won twice since you won last. I hope it kills you inside to realize one of the best things your organization had is managing the Dodgers this year. I hope you die a little bit everytime some fan rags on Pettitte and rubs Clemens in your face. Ihope you die inside a little bit when you realize once again you don’t have a number one starter but a two a three and 3 I hope so’s. I hope you vomit in your mouth when you realize how much money your team is paying Johnny Damon to be less than average because I laugh my ass off everytime I realize Hal andHank Steinbrenner are pulling the strings.

Find me a Yankee blog site that encourages people to send Curt (the $8 million thief) emails for no reason other than taunting him, and I’ll gladly call that Yankee fan classless like yourself. I actually think the thief is cool for blogging. Now if you ask me to about the content, that’s another thing. The guy is in love with himself and oozes with arrogance. A kid like Hughes posting what his favorite music is what it is. It give kids, who are important to the future of our past time an insight to information that no one really cares about except a 10-20 year old. Sorry the 8 year old from Weston, could give a crap on the thief’s opinions on the upcoming election. As far as Giant fans in New England, at least you rooted for the best team in football last year. That’s great!! See you in April…

  • Steve

I dot see how you can even infer that Schilling is an $8 mil thief. He passed all the tests, a physical etc. Its quite possible the Red Sox didnt do their due diligence in the matter, although I doubt it. Injuries happen. I could sit here and call Pavano a $40 million thief if you want the pot to call the kettle black. You remember Pavano right? I believe he hasn’t pitched in quite a while (19 games in 3 years) and he raked in some nice cash. Not to mention he’s a liar for hiding injuries from a car accident. See its a two way street.

As for Schilling’s blog, I don’t read it. I’ve looked at maybe 5 or 6 times in the two years he has had it. I find he goes on tangents and the writing doesn’t flow but hey he’s an athlete not Stephen King so it doesn’t much matter. I also find that many of the commenters are either clueless or kiss ass fans “great blog Curt thank you so much for doing this”. Doing what??

I also don’t read Youkilis’ blog or Buchholz’ blog because I dont think either of those guys actually write them. I think especially Youkilis’ is an interview with someone, possibly Ian Browne of mlb.com/redsox.com, and then transcribed for the blog.

I’m pretty sre if we went back in time to when Schilling launched 38 pitches we could find a Yankee blog or two with a negative opinion and nudging fans to write, you cant be that stupid to think that never happened.

As a Yankee’s fan you have bigger things to worry about then whether a blogger is telling Sox fans to email taunts to Hughes or deciding that Schilling is stealing money. You have to look no further than this sorry excuse for a bullpen. Nice job there Cashman.

Good thing for the gravatars because it’s confusing with all these Steve’s commenting.

  • Steve

I could drop a few F-Bombs if you want so you know for sure it’s me :)

  • Jay

i think that it is really nasty of u dumb red sox fans 2 harass a really nice and a great pitcher like hughes. u sox fans r just so- i can’t even find a bad enough word 4 u! just b/c u won 2 ws recently, it doesn’t mean u have 2 start rubbing it in. the yankees have won 26 ws! u stinking fans. i’m sorry but i think it is so WRONG 2 start writing and harassing a really nice guy who u probably chear on when he’s pitching well, or u want him 2 win a game against a team u r playing against 2 get into the playoffs. think about it.

  • Steve

    I thought about it. GFY.

  • Ian

I think we will just leave this for all the Yankees fans who come over to cryingabout a little bit of a joke.

You (insert your Yankee fan ass name) have won the following award:

    GFY

  • Pink Hat Ian

And to all y’all Yankee fans out there, I guess you whole heartedly approve of what little Hankie said when he ran his trap again in Play Magazine.

  • jc686

So I guess Curt Schilling is the only guy allowed to blog on the world wide web?

    You people really are ridiculous.

  • Ian

Not at all. If you read my comment (#11) I think what he’s doing is great. Anytime you can get into the mind of an athlete and see what he’s thinking is pretty cool if you asked me.

I haven’t checked his blog out yet during spring training but I probably well during the season to see if he talks about how he pitches similar to Schilling in the past.

There are other great athlete blogs out there as well. My favorite being the Gilbert Arenas one.

  • Jay

so, ian if u really like the curt schilling blog (whom i personaly hate) then y r u so against Phil Hughes making his own blog and harresing him? is that at all fair?? what other player do u know has this gr8 connection with fans like hughes? WHO??? tell me ONE person! i think its gr8! this guy is amazing! this coming season i tell you he is going 2 b one awesome pitcher, unlike schilling, beckett (what does he have NOW? bask spasms?), matsuzaka (i mean who is this guy, really?!?). the yanks rotation? wang (who is NOT an ace but is still really gr8), Pettite (who although DID use HGH was honest 2 tell the media, AND who is a pretty good pitcher most of the time), Hughes (who as i metioned before is gr8, needs more K’s but is dominant enough, who will have an AMAZING season), Kenndey (who we haven’t seen much but he looks good not so sure about him yet). and talk about chamberlain! he’s supposed 2 the best one out there now!! Now Ian answer 2 that!!!

  • Ian

First off, did you read all the comments I’ve left where I said I was joking about harassing him (comment #22).

I think we will just leave this for all the Yankees fans who come over to cry about a little bit of a joke.

Did you also see where I said I respect Hughes for what he is doing (comment #11)?

Like I’ve said with Curt Schilling’s blog, I think it’s a great thing that Hughes is doing especially taking questions from the fans. I think anytime an athlete does that it brings a different perspective to the game. I’ll admit I read his blog. So take this post as you must.

Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Lester, Colon/Buchholz vs Wang, Pettitte Mussina, Hughes, Kennedy.

First off, Beckett will be fine. With the cautious approach the Red Sox are taking with him, he’ll still be a candidate for the Cy Young. Matsuzaka has a year under his belt in America and I think will have a breakout season and show us what all the hype was about. Wakefield is Wakefield, probably finish right around .500 but give about 15 wins. Lester having no issues to worry about other than pitching will give the Red Sox some quality starts and will get better as the season goes on. Personally, I think Buchholz will start the season in the minors and probably Colon too as the Red Sox really don’t need a 5th starter until mid-April.

Wang is good but like you said he’s no ace. I’d take Beckett over him any day of the week. Pettitte is a good pitcher and I’ve given him respect during this whole HGH saga, but with the Clemens perjury investigation lingering, the big question with Pettitte will be how he reacts to it. Mussina isn’t the same as he once was and last year was terrible in my opinion. His fastball was a batting practice fastball for the most of the season. Hughes is a good pitcher and will need to live up to the hype as well. I’d expect Hughes to be the ace by mid-season. Kennedy has had moderate success so far in his short time and will probably have a decent season. The wild card in the Yanks rotation is Chamberlain. He was dominant in the minors and has been for the most part in the majors. The difference though is the fact that Joba was a starter in the minors and has been a reliever in the majors where he only faces guys one time. I’d like to see how he does as a starter in the big leagues and has to make adjustments throughout the game as he faces hitters for a second and possibly third time before you anoint him the next great thing.

If Beckett’s back injury lingers past April there is cause for concern. Other than that, I’m not worried at all.

Both teams are really good this year and it’s a matter of a team staying healthy. We saw what happened when the Yanks weren’t healthy last season. Once they got the guys back they started to perform. The Sox stayed healthy for most of the season and held on at the end when guys started to tire. I don’t think you’ll see guys tire this year from the Red Sox. The Red Sox have good pitching depth in the minors that will help out. Not so sure about the Yanks (and by that I mean I don’t really know what they have).

And to close out, I’ll say this again.

Anytime an athlete interacts with the fans via the blog medium, I think it’s a great thing especially when you can read about what’s going through their heads at any certain point in a game rather than reading it in the mainstream media outlets. And I do have to say, I’m a fan of the contests he’s done so far this spring.

  • Steve

Geez who’d have guess a Yankee fan who cant spell and thinks everything is all sunshine and rainbows with that rotation and bullpen.

And this from a team who is making a mockery of the game by signing an aging washed up comedian for his 60th b-day to play in a game. What is this fucking little league?

    Who’s next Rudy Guliani?

  • Jay

first of all mr. steve, who is calling me a yankee fan who can’t spell? i happen 2 have won the spelling bee in 11th grade (lol) so excuse me. the ppl. in baseball who aren’t american or even if they r, have hard names, what can i say?
what is this i hear? u calling me a YANKEE fan? how dare you! fyr i am a LA angels fan, but i keep with other teams who might b a danger 2 us. who said anything about me being all sunshine and rainbows(y not snowflakes and elephants!?!?). didn’t i say that the yankees have things 2 work on? rotation and bullpen 4 example and even though giambi is playing first, i can’t say he’s very exciting 2 watch. both teams have things 2 work on, i am NOT all fun and smiles about them. i must admit though the red sox and angels will b a bit intimidated when they play nyy, giraridi has made changes, some for the worse while some for better we just have 2 wait till opening day 2 find out!

  • Ian

And now you have to wonder how serious Pettitte’s elbow problem really is.

Hopefully I answered your question from before Jay. I’ll let Steve handle his response.

I will say the Angels should be a good team this year. For us, it can be frustrating watching them at times because they play a lot of small ball. But heck it works so more power to them.

  • Jay

don’t think pettitte will really b out 4 long but it is something 2 worry a bit about. at least its not like the mets who have many injuries. i feel really good about the angels, i think they’ve put together a good team and have a very good chance. i guess u answered my question from before.
    i’ll wait 4 steve 2 answer back 2 answer.
also heard about the brawl 2day in tampa, not something u like hearing often, even if it is against ur rivalry, just hope they don’t do this type of thing 2 ur team

  • Jay

p.s. how did u get that yankee icon as a picture?

  • Ian

    one of two ways.

you can register one at http://gravatar.com or next time you leave a comment, check the button under the submit button before hitting the submit button.

  • Jay

thanx ian, as much as i hate the fact that ur a sox fan and u disagree with everything i say for thanx for telling me about a gravatar!

  • Ian

It’s not that I disagree with everything, I just present it a different way is all. You’ve made some good points.

  • Jay

thank you very much i try to use persuasive writing and good and fair reasons to prove my point. hope i’ve done that! u 2 have made good points, yanks, red sox and angels all will have gr8 seasons, no doubt but it all comes down can how they do against each other, and how they do in the post-season.
at least we agree one thing-we come from 2 different sides of the story-you from a sox view, and my from a angels and baseball view so we can’t agree and c things from the same way! Good night!
ps. did u visit phil’s blog (i know i don’t want 2 bring it up….lol) it really is pretty cool w/ contests and pix and random thoughts and stuff!
ps. i signed up 4 a gravater and now what happens?

  • Ian

Your gravatar will eventually show up here in time. The only reason for attacks here is when we are attacked.

We get a lot of fans who talk a lot of shit and don’t back it up or just make downright asinine comments.

Everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it. Just be smart about how you express it is all.

I have a baseball view as well. The radio show I do with anthony and jason is all about major league baseball. next week we preview the nl west and the following week is the al west.

Yeah i saw it. That was my last line from the comment last night. I think that’s great. I don’t pay enough attention to it to try and win something.

  • Jay

u do a radio show in boston? that’s pretty cool, man! when did u preview the al east? when u do the al west, talk good about the angels, ok? (lol)

  • Ian

I live in Connecticut and the radio show is an internet radio show that I do with a Yankees blogger and an Orioles blogger. We talk about all of baseball and while at times we focus on the issues regarding our teams, we take a look at all of baseball and what’s going on. I think we previewed the AL East 3 weeks ago. This week was the AL Central, the week before was the NL Central, the week before that was the AL East and the week before that was the NL East. Next week is the NL West and the following week will be the AL West.

You can listen to the shows by going up to the big Blogtalk Radio button on the left sidebar. The most recent show is in the player right below it.

Since I haven’t seen your gravatar yet, make sure you signed up using the email address you’re commenting with here and make sure on the gravatar.com page, you have selected one. They usually show up within a few hours.

  • Jay

pretty ironic that u do a radio show with a yanks fan, and orioles blogger. i’ll check out the show soon.
there was an error loading my gravatar. i’m pretty upset b/c it won’t work but i hope i’ll fix the problem soon. can’t wait till opening day? can u?
i don’t like moose in particular but today he was just exceptional! what did u think about him performance?
also what other articles here would b interesting 4 a baseball fan here?
    good night!

  • Jay

i’m listening 2 ur show right now! have fun talking about baseball tonight and i’ll b listening till u get off,, have fun!!
