In Kevin Garnett’s return to Minnesota, the Boston Celtics stunned the Minnesota Timberwolves at the final buzzer tonight to pull out an 88-86 win at the Target Center.
Minnesota’s Marko Jaric missed a three and Craig Smith ran down the rebound and he threw the ball out to the top of the key. But instead of throwing it to a teammate he threw it to Ray Allen who tried a lay up but lost control of the ball. The ball then bounced Boston’s way as three green jersey’s were in the neighborhood and Leon Powe made the put back just as the buzzer sounded for the win.
The game also marked the return of Kevin Garnett to Minnesota. Even though he wasn’t playing he was introduced before the game to his former home crowd who gave Garnett a great ovation. This was the 6th game in a row Garnett has missed with an abdominal strain. It is unknown if he will play on Sunday at home against San Antonio.
The Celtics were led by captain Paul Pierce who had 18 points and 6 assists, Ray Allen had 17 points and Powe had 16 points and 8 boards off the bench.
The Timberwolves were led by former Celtic Al Jefferson who had 18 points and 9 rebounds, Smith chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds and another former Celtic Ryan Gomes had 13 points and 6 boards.
Boston is now 38-9 heading into the Sunday battle with the defending NBA Champion Spurs.
