UConn's hottie Mel ThomasFor those of who you have followed the career of injured UConn women’s hottie Mel Thomas, you know that she is a really good basketball player. I am sure you also know that she is very smart as well.

Thomas was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team for the second straight year. In the fall semester, she boasted a 3.97 GPA and has a 3.52 GPA majoring in business.

She has also been named to the Big East Academic All-Star team three times. Thomas is now eligible for the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All-America Team that will be announced on February 26th.

Congratulations to Mel!!

I just can’t keep quiet about this one……Business……rofl.

I don’t think you’ll find too many engineers or scientists who would be impressed; business….

however from a student/athlete perspective kudos to Mel…the schedule she needs to keep to maintain those kind of grades is pretty strenuous and requires some serious discipline both at home and, especially, on the road.

Keith, regardless of major she had a 3.97 last semester and does it while under going those stresses you mentioned. I don’t care if basket weaving was her major to get a 3.97 is pretty impressive.

  • Ian

She’ll probably be the one handling my brother’s finances down the road.

Remember bro, while all you engineers and scientists are making money working, the business majors are the ones making you more money.

If you got a 3.97 in engineering, people would be impressed. I am impressed with a 3.97 in business. It’s not as easy as it looks.(trust me, I never smelled anything close to that).

Essentially, the basketball season starts in the early to middle part of the first semester and goes almost to the end of second semester if you’re team is any good.

And any athlete who can get that type of GPA while basically playing a sport that encompasses two semesters should definitely be applauded.

And thanks Rick for the GPA update. I was lazy before on the research and could remember it was 3.9. Definitely don’t want to slight her in any way for her academic achievements.

She is pretty smart… is she still going to every class or does she have to go to her dorm and ice her knee every now and again?

  • Ian

I would assume she still goes to class like normal. She probably does a lot of rehab during her spare time and when the team is practicing. The rehab isn’t fun, I can tell you that from experience.

  • Victoria

i have’nt had rehab… but i have had physical therapy from a dislocated shoulder and elbow… that isnt too fun either. welll its too bad she has too miss all the fun though…
