The Result
I want to say Congratulations to the New York Giants and their fans, you deserve that Super Bowl Championship.
The Giants played their asses off, their hearts out and left nothing behind. The Giants defense was spectacular and when they needed it in the biggest game they came through.
Right now I am stunned, as I am sure is all of New England. But I said this game made me uneasy and I was uncomfortable the entire game and I wasn’t anywhere near the field. This feeling reminds me of watching Aaron Boone hit the HR off of Tim Wakefield.
Time and time again, especially in big games the Patriots always came through. Except this time. This has to rival the Jets upsetting the Colts, Duke stunning UNLV, Notre Dame ending UCLA’s win streak, George Mason beating UConn in the Elite 8 and the ‘69 Mets.
Now there’s Eli Manning throwing to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left to stop perfection cold.
It was a great victory. It was a sporting event for the ages. It was the upset of a lifetime.
Perfection was not to be.
It’s going to be a long offseason.

Post Game Comments
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is interviewed by FOX TV’s Chris Meyers after the game.

congrats to the giants…note to bill belichick for next year forget the perfect season just win the superbowl…no more no less…18-1 is nice but i would give it back right now to win the superbowl tonight.
Kudos to the Giants. They were the better team tonight.
I think if any fan of any NFL team were told before the season your team will go 18-1 you’d take it. Unless the one is this one. Im not so sure they were outplayed as I think both teams left it on the field, I think the Giants executed when they needed it the most and the Patriots didn’t. I know several Giants fans and I am happy for them because their team was on the verge of sucking again and somehow, someway they found themselves (and they did it prior to Week 17) and they played very well. I said in my prediction that this reminded me of the Rams-Patriots Super Bowl and how much more right could I have been.
I think the Patriots are still the better team, the Giants though were the team who played better and deserved to win.
I will say this about Belichick. I love him as a coach, I think he is a master motivator and great in so many phases of being a coach BUT I think he is a poor loser. He doesn’t take it well, as he shouldn’t, but you can be upset you lost and be gracious. I just think it’s the one thing he really lacks and that’s one of the reasons people love to hate him.
A lot can be said for how Terry Francona manages losing and how he balances it with winning. Not too high, not too low. But then again they’re different games, baseball is a long marathon, football is like your five k thanksgiving fun run. But I think his way of managing losing would work in football too.
I don’t think the Boone HR is a good analogy. The game was tied for the Sox then; the Pats were ahead in theirs. The better analogy would have been the unwinding of Pedro earlier in that game.
The Boone HR regardless of score ended the game and the season just like the Burress TD catch. It was it’s finality that gave me the same feeling.

[...] I mention earlier the Patriots lost? Check some Pats fans reactions here, here and here. KSK is also priceless [...]
I would like to extend an invitation to everyone on Sox and Dawgs to come over and take Wally to task. He loves to shoot off his mouth and downplay all the Patriots accomplishments.
I would do it, but I am too happy about the Giants’ victory.
