
Gordon Edes is reporting that the Red Sox have signed Sean Casey to a 1-year, $800,000 deal. Casey will be Youk’s backup and will provide a left-handed bat off the bench for the Sox.

What’s that have to do with the Red Sox you ask? Well, Tim Wakefield is going to be flying with the Navy’s Blue Angels today. Wake will be going for a 45 minute flight with the famed Blue Angels as they prepare for their Super Bowl XLII appearance.

John Farrell and Terry Francona have been in hot demand to speak a college baseball opening banquets around the country lately. As we know Farrell and Francona were on hand for the Virginia Cavaliers opening dinner and Francona was in Utah this week for the Utes preseason dinner. Now it’s Farrell’s turn as he will be the keynote speaker at tonight’s John A. Ferguson Diamond Dinner which benefits Oral Roberts baseball.
Farrell, who was an All-American at Oklahoma State was a teammate there of Rob Walton who now coaches the Oral Roberts baseball team.
When I came in as a freshman,” Walton said, “he showed me the ropes and had a great work ethic so I tried to be like him.”
