Rivers May Have Torn ACL

January 17th, 2008 by Steve · 7 Comments ·

StearnsAccording to Butch Stearns of WFXT TV FOX 25 in Boston San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has a torn ACL and will attempt to play on it Sunday afternoon in Foxboro. The Chargers have reported the injury as a “sprained MCL” but according to a source Stearns claims the QB has the much more serious ACL tear. The source also told Stearns that it will severely limit Rivers side to side movement.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Stearns is one of the biggest flaming idiots in all of Boston sports. Check that, in all of sports. This is the same moron who talked over the star spangled banner during his on field pre-game report prior to a Red Sox- Indians playoff game this fall. Not to mention his on going battles with Curt Schilling over Stearns stupidity. So if this turns up to be false, either before, during or after the game I won’t be surprised.

If he does get it right, it will just go to show you even a blind squirrel can find a nut on occasion.

IF this is even true, all it’s going to take is one good hit on him to knock him out for good. And that’s even with a brace on. Like you said, he’s not going to have any mobility at all and I’d have to think that even a 3-step or 5-step drop will be painful to do.

I know you’ve had two of these, I’ve heard that after the initial shock and burnof a complete tear there really isn’t any pain. How true is that? And if it’s a partial tear i’d imagine there’d be pain, plus the risk of additional swelling and pain not to mention one bump and goodbye knee.

I just find it hard to beleive that a team doctor would be okay with sending someone out there on a torn ACL. But at the same time didn’t we just hear recently about someone playing like that?

The first time I tore my ACL it hurt like a mofo. The pain did subside and there’s not a lot of pain. The whole problem is that the ACL is what holds your knee together. There would be times where I’d be walking to class (I did my first one 2 months before my college graduation and had my surgery 6 weeks before graduation) and my knee would just give out because my ACL was torn. No pain from that though but it would make the knee swell back up.

Odds are if he’s got a torn ACL, he’s got other damage in the knee as well similar to what both Mel and Kalana have. I had meniscus damage in mine as well.

If he wears a brace on his knee, it will give him a little support but not much. Like I said earlier one good hit on the knee or one of the big d-line or linebackers falling on it and that’s it for him. Plus I’d have to think he’d be risking a lot more damage to the knee as well.

Dennis Dixon the Oregon QB tried to play on a torn ACL and didnt do so hot.

Well it appears that the blind squirrel found his nut*. The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that sources have told them Philip Rivers has a partially torn ACL in his right knee in addition to the sprained MCL that was orginally reported.

Rivers, who practiced a little Friday, is listed as doubtful for the game.

    * – This no way is meant to infer that Butch Stearns is any less of a moronic idiot than he previously was. Play on.

I forgot to post about that earlier on here but I heard the same thing this morning on First Take. The SI reporter they were interviewing said when he asked the Chargers about the report, they had no comment.

10 bucks says Stearns boos the girl that got booed in Indy last week.

and another ten says he does something stupid during at some point during the game. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard it but the best audio is the day Schilling called in just so he could tear him a new one live on the air on WEEI.

I get to listen to WEEI a lot here I’m right in two of their signals so I can listen pretty much anywhere. And of all the people that are on there Butch is by far the biggest moron and that’s saying something because they’re loaded with them. The stuff he comes out with is amazing my 8 year old knows more about sports than he does.
