Red Sox News & Notes – 12/11 Part 2

Red Sox News & Notes @ SOX & Dawgs

Most of the time, the newspaper websites put their stories up online just after midnight. This holds true normally for the Providence Journal and Boston Herald. The Boston Globe and Hartford Courant usually publish theirs online around 3 AM. If am up til 3 AM, I will usually include those headlines into the news and notes and make sure the early ones are in. You ask why am I explaining this to you? My answer is because there was a lot of news that came out after I went to bed at 1 AM last night that was missed here.

“As The Santana Turns” is starting to show signs of life again as it appears that the Twins are focused on the deal which involved Jacoby Ellsbury. Rumor is the teams are deciding who the fourth player will be.

Mike Lowell and Terry Francona are heading to Washington, D.C. to have dinner with President Bush. This visit is different than when the whole team will go to the White House. Lowell also said he has become a “soccer dad” this offseason. I wonder if he’s driving the mini-van around.

The Red Sox made it 2 for 2 in this years MLB.com This Year in Baseball Awards as closer Jonathan Papelbon was the overwhelming choice for Closer of the Year. Can the Red Sox go 3 for 3 tomorrow if the fans voted Terry Francona as Manager of the Year?

3 am. i guess the best part about not being on the east coast is all that news hits the papers about 1 am here.

Normally I will stay up during the season til 3 am to catch the headlines then sleep in a little. But with the offseason, I’ve conditioned myself to go to bed early.

That must be fun on Sundays for the Pats when they play at 1 PM. My brother says the same thing though out in Hawaii when they play at 1 PM because that means he’s up at 8 to watch the game.

11 am on the start this weekend its actually better i think. when i visit the eastcoast i always forget how late things start. i’m so used to waking up getting on line reading the paper, and there’s already games going on. 8am in hawaii thats a bit early but if you think about it you get all the games in and there’s still daylight to go out and do something which is cool.

Anyone but Ellsbury. I am fine with the deal for Santana as long as that kid stays in a Sox uni.

  • Ian

I am with you on that. I think the general consensus up here is that if you’re going to do the deal with them, take Ellsbury off the table.

I am sure the Red Sox got bombarded again with emails like they did during winter meetings.

I’m in shock they would deal Ellsbury – I’m of the opinion he was the reason they won. He’s lightning in a bottle.

I just bought this for my Dad for Christmas – unique XMas gift for the ultimate Sox fan…if they keep this team united, we’re winning it all again next year…

If he was the reason they won he’d have been MVP not Lowell. as for trading him I will say this yet again. YOURE GETTING JOHAN FREAKING SANTANA!!! and you’re giving up players who have done nothing. NOTHING. That’s like the tool on the radio the other day who said Santana’s record was not good this year because he was only 15-13. People act like they’d be trading Ellsbury, Lester and the gang for Hideki Irabu. Can you tell I’ve had enough?

  • Ian

Ellsbury was a bring reason the Red Sox won yes but not the only reason. The main reason why the Red Sox won the World Series was because of guys 1-25, the coaching staff and the scouting staff. It was a complete team effort why the won the World Series. Any of one of them will tell you that too.

Personally as long as Santana doesn’t go to the Yankees, I am happy.

And those paintings are amazing. I saw them the other day and I am thinking of getting one for myself. They are definitely unique.

I meant to say that Ellsbury was the one that put them over the top. He’s a better version of a young Johnny Damon. You don’t know what to do with him when he’s on base…he forces the pitcher to lose his focus on the batter, the catcher has to call pitchouts, and he pulls the 1B to the bag, opening a huge hole for a LHB…

I told you so re: Waitkus! I just read tonight that he’s offering some new sick deal coming up later this year where you can frame your tickets to a game with one of his paintings – that’s a lot better than what I had planned – I’ve saved tickets for years and they’re sitting in my sock drawer getting all worn down…I wonder how much he’ll charge for that.
